Recent advancements have enhanced our understanding of the Milky Way formation and evolution through various stellar populations. Open star clusters, which populate the Galactic disk and trace the spiral arms with their younger stars, play a key role in such a study. A significant number of open clusters have been identified in the Milky Way through both optical and infrared observations, resulting in a significant enhancement in the open cluster sample and over 6,000 open clusters are already catalogued so far. This comprehensive data catalogue not only sheds light on the general characteristics of the open cluster system but also provides a great insights into the Galactic structure in our solar neighborhood. In this review talk, I will explore the Galactic open cluster systems and their role in understanding the structure of our galaxy.

Yogesh Chandra Joshi (born in 1974) is an Indian astronomer living in the city of Haldwani of the Uttarakhand province in India. He obtaind the PhD degree in 2004 from the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) in India on the topic "Search for Microlensing Events using Pixel Method" under supervision of Dr. A. K. Pandey (ARIES, India). He worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (India) from April 2004 to March 2006. He also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Queen’s University Belfast (UK) during 2006-2009. He is specialised in Astronomy and Astrophysics, particularly Gravitational microlensing, Extrasolar planets, Open star clusters, Galactic structure, and variable stars. In the 2010, He received the 'Best Group Achievement' award from the UK Royal Astronomical Society in London for their collective contributions within. Yogesh become scientist at the ARIES in the year 2009 where he is currently designated as Scientist-F (Professor). Notable milestones in his scientific career include the groundbreaking "Detection of the first Microlensing event from India," lead in the discovery paper on "Exoplanet WASP-14b," and research on the "Determination of the Sun's displacement from the Galactic Plane".
