　　报告人简介：George Hobbs教授在英国曼彻斯特大学获得博士学位，之后在澳大利亚国立天文台做了两期博士后，目前在澳大利亚联邦科学与工业研究组织(CSIRO)任研究科学家。George Hobbs教授在脉冲星领域已经取得丰硕的成果；其中包括利用脉冲星探测引力波，建立脉冲星时间标准等多个原创性的重要成果。多篇论文被引用百次以上,论文总引用数五千多次。George Hobbs教授是脉冲星到达时间研究方面的权威，编写了脉冲星到达时间软件TEMPO2，被世界各地的天文学家广泛使用。

　　Abstract: Pulsar timing observations have produced some very exciting results in astronomy . For instance, such results include the first detection of extrasolar planets, stringent tests of the general theory of relativity and is now being used to search for gravitational waves. In my talk I will describe the pulsar timing method in detail and then discuss new features in the tempo2 software package that can be used for studying glitches and timing noise and in the search for gravitational waves. I will also advertise the Parkes pulsar data archive that provides high quality observations of thousands of sources.
