Pulsar Astronomy at Jodrell Bank
Andrew Geoffrey Lyne, Fellow of Royal Society, is a British physicist. Lyne is Langworthy Professor of Physics in the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Manchester, as well as an ex-director of the Jodrell Bank Observatory.
He is mostly interested in finding radio pulsars and understanding the physics of neutron stars in all their various forms and with their various companions using the radio telescopes at Jodrell Bank and Parkes. The main aim of the searches is to probe deeper into the Galaxy, mostly for millisecond pulsars, young pulsars, RRATs (Rotating RAdio Transients) and any that might be in binary systems, particularly with other neutron stars or black holes, that might make valuable laboratories for testing gravitation theories.
