报告题目：Qatar Exoplanet Survey

摘   要：Dedicated ground-based surveys for transiting exoplanets continue to be a productive source for finding short period giant planets orbiting relatively bright stars. Many of these discoveries have become primary targets for subsequent studies important planetary characteristics with the use of some of the most advanced ground- and space-based telescopes. In addition, these discoveries contribute significantly to a more complete census of hot Jupiters and other close orbiting large planets – the type of planets not present in our solar system – and may provide a key to understanding their origin and more generally the planetary system architecture.

In this talk I will present the Qatar Exoplanet Survey, its design, current status and performance. I will discuss in detail the case of Qatar-6b, the latest exoplanet discovered by our project, and challenges that lay before us.

报告人简介：Dr. Zlatan Tsvetanov is a Senior Scientist with the Qatar Exoplanet Survey (QES) project at the Qatar Energy and Environment Research Institute. Prior to joining QES he has hold positions as a Research Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA and for several years he served as Program Scientist at the Astrophysics Division, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters where he managed the R&A program on extra-solar planets, and the scientific development of major exoplanet missions. Dr. Tsvetanov has a very active research career in both ground- and space based observational astronomy. He is a member of the science team of the Advanced Camera for Surveys on Hubble Space Telescope, and has extensive experience with research projects carried at a number of major ground-based observatories. His area of expertise and interests include active galactic nuclei and their central black holes, high redshift quasars, brown dwarfs and most recently extrasolar planets. Dr. Tsvetanov has a bachelor degree from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, and a doctorate from Moscow State University, Russia.
